OEM & ODM Customization Process for HV & LV Complete Power Equipment
As global infrastructure projects become more diversified, off-the-shelf power equipment no longer fits every application. Buyers increasingly require customized high voltage and low voltage complete equipment that matches specific technical standards, site conditions, and project budgets. A well-defined OEM and ODM process is essential to make customization efficient and reliable.
OEM, or original equipment manufacturing, refers to producing equipment according to the buyer’s design, drawings, and technical specifications. ODM, or original design manufacturing, means the manufacturer provides the design, engineering, and production based on the buyer’s performance requirements and application scenario. In practice, many projects combine both models, with the manufacturer supporting design optimization while the buyer retains brand and market control.
The process begins with a detailed technical discussion. Key parameters include rated voltage, rated current, short-circuit withstand capability, protection level, ambient temperature, altitude, and applicable standards such as IEC, GB, or ANSI. Site conditions, including indoor or outdoor installation and cable entry direction, also need to be clarified at this stage.
Based on the confirmed requirements, the manufacturer prepares a technical proposal that includes single-line diagrams, layout drawings, component selection, and a bill of materials. For ODM projects, this stage may also involve optimizing the electrical design to reduce cost or improve reliability.
For new designs or critical projects, a sample or prototype is often produced for type testing and visual inspection. This step helps identify potential issues before mass production and reduces the risk of rework.
During production, strict quality control is applied to incoming components, assembly, wiring, and routine testing. Standard tests include insulation resistance, dielectric withstand voltage, mechanical operation, and functional verification of protection and control circuits.
Before shipment, a factory acceptance test is usually arranged with the buyer or a third-party inspector. Test reports, certificates, operation manuals, and wiring diagrams are provided to support on-site installation and future maintenance.
A structured OEM and ODM process turns customization from a risk into a competitive advantage. By clarifying requirements early, approving designs systematically, and controlling quality at every stage, buyers can obtain HV and LV complete power equipment that fits their projects precisely and performs reliably over the long term.
